drawing and painting

Both my parents were musicians, so they saw nothing strange in the urge to make things. That means I was a very lucky kid. I loved to draw, paint, and write, and they encouraged me. My father found my first art teacher, Heidi Elsaesser, who helped me see how much of drawing was looking. I studied at YSU, at the Maryland Institute of Art, and at YSU, again. On my return to YSU, I changed my major to English, a path I followed to a teaching job, but I kept painting. I took Mary Kay D’Isa’s watercolor class and learned how risky and how exciting that medium can be. I’m inspired by artists from the past and the present—especially those I’m lucky enough to know, here. AI may be getting more sophisticated, but I hope to keep trying to get the effect I want with paint, water, paper, and a brush.

The painting I'm seeking, I haven't painted yet. I'm still on the search for the best combination of light, shadow, and color. Maybe I'll never reach perfection, but I love splashing around, trying for it.
