We invite area artists and writers document the Youngstown region for our project, A Day in the LOOP.

This Lit Youngstown workshop will serve as a community-centered space where veterans can explore their experiences, creativity, and personal stories through writing. No prior writing experience is necessary. Through group readings, group discussions, thoughtful prompts, and optional sharing opportunities, participants can develop their writing skills, connect with fellow veterans, and discover the power of language as a tool for reflection, healing, and self-expression. Hands of Light and Dark is a two-day drawing workshop with local artist Ed Hallahan. The meditative drawing experience, and a metaphor for creation, will use the form of your hand (and/or other hands), chiaroscuro drawing technique, the symbolism of light and dark (as in Yin Yang philosophy), and a circular format. We’re joining forces with Lit Yongstown to put together a team of volunteers for Youngstown CityScape's annual Planting Day, May 30th from 9 am to noon. The day begins with a free continental breakfast at Penguin City at 9 am. From there, we’ll head to our assigned area to get our hands dirty before heading back to Penguin City at noon for a free lunch. To be assigned to the same area, we’ll need to register as a group.
