We're excited to launch our Emerging Artist Fellowship program! Checkout the details below. Application deadline: May 1, 2026, by 11:59 pm

Eligible artists:

This fellowship is designed to support artists (writers, this means you too!) in the early stage of their creative career—typically within their first 10 years of practicing seriously. Applicants may not yet have a large body of work, but they are finding their artistic voice and starting to build experience through exhibitions, performances, publications, grants, or awards.

Applicants are eligible if they are at least 21 years old by the fellowship start date and are not currently enrolled in, nor plan to enroll in, a degree-granting program during the fellowship.

Details:

The fellowship period spans June 1, 2026 - April 30, 2027.

Selected artists will receive a free studio in LOOP Youngstown’s new art space at 805 Mahoning Ave. during the fellowship period, along with a monthly stipend for supplies.

Throughout the fellowship, artists will work with LOOP staff to develop opportunities for public engagement. Fellows will also participate in professional development and networking activities designed to build skills needed for a career in the arts.

Professional development activities may include:

  • Portfolio reviews and artist critiques

  • Guidance on documenting work

  • Meetings with local professional artists

  • Grant application strategies

  • How to enter gallery shows or submit to literary journals

  • Writing an artist statement and bio

How to apply:

Please submit an application with 3 samples of your work.

  • 2 samples can be work completed within the last 10 years.

  • 1 sample must be work completed within the last 3 years, or a work-in-progress that you intend to complete during your fellowship.
