Noreen yazvac
painter and instructor
My education in art began with Florence Hosa, my Boardman High School art teacher. A continued interest in art led me to study painting under the private instruction of artists Celeste Moran, Cherie Mohn, Tom Antonishak, and Christopher Leeper. In May 2006 I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Art degree in art history and an emphasis in studio art from Youngstown State University. Being newly retired from my YSU career, I am able to work on my art more frequently. I enjoy teaching paint and sip classes so that everyone can experience the joy of being creative. I also teach occasional watercolor workshops at the Davis YMCA. I was past president of Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society--a wonderful organization I have been a part of since 2005. I have participated in exhibits such as Butler Institute of American Art Annual Area Artist Exhibit, (Honorable Mention) juried show; YSU Festival of the Arts (Best of Show Award 2015), juried show; YWCA Annual Women Artists: A Celebration! Art Show, (Honorable Mentions & Committee Award) juried show; and Canfield Fair Fine Art Show, Honorable Mention Award/Juror’s Pick Award. I have exhibited my work in Davis Center Weller Gallery, Fellows Riverside Gardens, Mill Creek Park. I have participated in the Artists of the Rust Belt B&O Arts and Crafts shows as well as other area shows.
Painting is my passion, a blessing, and something I truly enjoy. Inspired by nature, I feel the need to capture it by using vibrant colors and various mediums including acrylic, watercolor, alcohol inks, sometimes mixing them together. I use whatever is needed in order to get the effect I am searching for in a piece. My paintings include landscapes, flowers, animals and abstracts. I need to feel that connection with art and nature which helps to balance and give my life meaning and spirituality. To be able to create art that expresses what I feel and at the same time bring joy to others, then I am fulfilled as an artist.
